‘When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping!’ Anyone wanting to follow through on that old adage will find plenty of choice in Trinidad & Tobago. A plethora of well-established local stores and longstanding malls join newly erected strip-malls and pop-up markets, offering everything from minute jewel accessories to gigantic QLED TV screens.

In a nation where social interaction (liming) is largely based upon gatherings of every conceivable size, fashion outlets play a major role. Designer originals aplenty - drawing inspiration from T&T’s culture, myths and landscape – adorn many a show window. Global clothing brands also exist across the country, allowing shoppers to sift through the latest fashion trends, a key ingredient in the retail therapy process.

As Caribbean islands, swimwear shops are always nearby, catering for the very young to bikinis and bathing suits for adults. Accessories for latest beach lime? Absolutely, T&T’s stores provide the complete package.

With the penchant for healthy living, sports shops offer all that is required for the upcoming run, hike, ride or gym workout. Wellness outlets have also been increasing in number, allowing you to spend an afternoon browsing and consulting on what works best for you, a case of double therapy!

There are massive offerings for the home, with large warehouses with sprawling floorspaces showcasing perfect living room or kitchen settings. This is countered by cosy shops or pop-up market stalls that contain unusual pieces for your abode, creating that satisfying feeling of having found something unique perhaps for a bargain, that will take pride of place in your home or office.

Of course, no shopping jaunt is complete without a break for a snack, lunch or a casual drink. Bars, restaurants, coffeeshops are always within walking distance of the shops; some stores even offer tea or coffee with light snacks.

Just reading about shopping in T&T has had the desired effect of relaxing you just that little bit, so now it’s time to go on out there and sample the real thing.
